As a professional wedding and elopement photographer based in Venice, Italy, I have the privilege of capturing love stories in some of the most breathtaking places in the world. One of the most unforgettable experiences I’ve had was photographing a truly magical elopement at Lake Braies (Lago di Braies) in the heart of the Dolomites. We started our adventure early, leaving Venice at 5 AM in a rented car, heading north toward the mountains. The journey itself was peaceful, and as we drove through the stunning Italian countryside, we could feel the excitement building. By 8 AM, we arrived at Lake Braies, one of the most iconic and romantic lakes in Northern Italy, known for its emerald waters and dramatic alpine backdrop.
From 8 to 10 AM, we took full advantage of the quiet morning light. As a destination wedding photographer in Italy, I always look for moments of natural beauty and intimacy.
The lake was still, surrounded by mist and the soft light of dawn, creating the perfect backdrop for romantic, cinematic images. We captured the couple walking hand in hand along the lake’s edge, framed by towering pine trees and the reflection of the Dolomites in the water.
At 10 AM, the famous wooden rowboats of Lake Braies became available. We rented one and paddled into the middle of the lake, where the couple exchanged their wedding vows on the water. It was just the three of us—no guests, no distractions—just raw emotion and the beauty of nature. As a Lake Braies elopement photographer, moments like this are what I live for: authentic, deeply personal, and visually stunning.
The bride’s dress flowed in the breeze, the groom held her hands tightly, and their words echoed softly across the water. Photographing this intimate elopement ceremony was one of the most emotional and inspiring experiences of my career.
After the session, we made our way back to Venice, hearts full, memory cards overflowing with golden memories.
